Babes N Tots – The Story

Published: 3rd July 2020

During the Covid-19 pandemic we’ve taken a look back to see the success since the start of Babes N Tots FT Bongo Beats in 2013.

Babes N Tots is a session for under 5’s allowing children to express and develop through music making, socialising, co-ordination, listening, talking, self-confidence and creativity.

Tracey began her journey creating Bongo Beats in 2012, a now well-established business in the surrounding areas of Huddersfield for young children.

In 2013 newly started on her journey we (formally known as Huddersfield Community Trust) approached Tracey to join our team to deliver and start a baby and toddler group within Yorkshire’s Largest Play area.

Tracey, having already started a following through Bongo Beats set about creating interest for the new sessions at The Zone.

September 2013 after the summer school holidays was the first meet and we’ve not looked back since. Beginning with one session on Monday mornings it proved extremely successful so we eventually added an extra class a week on Friday mornings. Tracey adds: ‘If I had the spare time we would probably hold sessions every day of the week.’

Looking back through records, last year in 2019 we had over 3000 young children attend our Babes N Tots classes. We have also themed our classes in the past, with successful Christmas parties reaching capacity every year!

The sessions include extensive time in the play area, puzzles, toys, tunnels, books, a dedicated baby area, with juice and toast for the children. There is a time-slot included for story time and music making.

Over the last 7 years we have met so many children and families and seen them develop through our classes. It has been such a shame we have had to postpone the sessions at The Zone due to Covid-19.We will be back better than ever when possible!

In the meantime Tracey has adapted with her Bongo Beats classes and now has online Zoom availability on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings at 10am. Perfect entertainment and learning for young children in the morning.
